A very long, busy and unscheduled, yet extremely productive day today cutting all the fields and moving all the sheeps. With all the recent sunny weather mixed in with the heavy rain the fields had become far too long for the sheeps so needed topping. When the grass is too long it can slice between the hoof (this is called strip), which can be incredibly painful if not spotted and treated. Imagine slicing between your toes with a cheese wire (please don’t try this at home!). So a long day, and Bank Holiday plans cancelled, (I guess there’s always next years Earl of Rone) but it is what it is. On a positive note I definitely got my steps in. Equally busy day tomorrow dagging, ready for shearing next month. Gingers first day at school since semi retiring from the Astra Sheepdog Centre where she has been working for most of her 8 years. Her school report from the incredibly talented trainer Hilary Jones reads ‘Must try harder, easily distracted, does not pay attention, slightly deaf when it comes to recall on sheep!’. None of which are good traits for a potential staff member here at the farm. So it’s back to obedience training this weekend with Sooz Dog Training.
